Veronica's Play Date Revealed
Veronica sat at her desk, staring blankly at her computer screen. Her mind was a mess of thoughts and emotions; she felt like she'd been hit by a truck. She didn't know what to do or how to feel about the events of last night.
It had all happened so fast, but it wasn't over yet. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she was still in love with him, no matter what he said. But they were both adults now.
They could make their own decisions. That's what she kept telling herself as her fingers danced across the key board. She looked up when she heard a knock on the door frame.
"Hey, Vee," Eric smiled as he walked into her office. She stood up wearily as she placed her hands on her hips. "What do you want?" Veronica asked calmly.
"I just wanted to see if you needed any help."
Veronica rolled her eyes. "And why would I ask you for help?"
Eric smiled again as he took a seat in front of Veronicas desk. "Because you know that I'm always there for you. Whenever you need me. No matter what."
Veronica blushed. "That's sweet of you Eric. Thanks, she said softly as she began typing into her computer again. He smiled, stood up and left quietly. She sighed and turned back to her computer, trying to focus on work.
The next day was busy for Veronica. She had meetings all morning and afternoon, and then another meeting right before she left for home. There was nothing more she needed to be doing, but she had never felt this much anxiety before. She had been working all day, and she knew something was wrong when she got home.....and found a text message waiting for her from Jake.
She quickly opened it and read it. "Hi beautiful. Can't wait to see you tonight. Jake."
She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She was tired of being alone. As much as she loved Ben, she couldn't face him tonight. Instead she decided to go out to dinner and catch up with her friends.
She sent him a quick reply and went to shower and get ready. While showering she wondered how she got caught in the bizarre love triangle. She sighed as she finished getting dressed.
She was going to have to figure this out soon, because she couldn't keep living like this. After putting on some lipstick and mascara, she grabbed her keys and purse and headed out the door. She drove to the restaurant and went inside.
It seemed like everyone was smiling to greet her, as they sat down at the table. She ordered drinks, and when they came, she downed one herself. She
pulled out her phone and checked her messages. There were three new ones from Jake. Three!
She smiled and laughed to herself. Jake was coming by and not even asking! She looked around the room and noticed several other people looking at her, obviously talking about her.
She blushed and shook her head. Her friends asked her why she looked so flustered. "Oh, I don't know, maybe because my boyfriend is coming here to meet me!" They all laughed. She smiled."Well, he better not be late!"
After dinner, Veronica headed home. She was exhausted, but she had to get ready for Jake. She changed into a simple black dress, and made sure her hair and makeup were perfect. When she finally saw him pull up, she almost ran outside. He stepped out of his car and smiled. As he walked to the front door, she noticed how handsome he looked. He wore a dark blue shirt and jeans.
But the longer she waited for him to come through the door the more nervous she became. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he knocked on the door. She quickly answered it.
"Hi beautiful!" He gave her a sweet kiss. She breathed in deeply and felt a wave of relief wash over her.
They walked to the living room and sat down on the couch.
